This qualification provides a higher level qualification in Montessori Education for those who already have a University degree.   For non-UK qualifications (or UK qualifications deemed equivalent to a degree) confirmation of the qualification’s status must be provided from NARIC (click here for details).

The qualification is based on, and solely assessed by, a research project.  This is normally, but not necessarily, an action research project.   (For further details on action research, also known as collaborative practitioner research, click here.)

The project is at the level of a pilot study for a master’s degree.  Assessment is solely on the basis of the dissertation, which is typically around 10,000 words, but that may vary considerably according to the content.

There are two routes to gaining this qualification.  It may be taken concurrently with any MAEL qualification or, for those with an approved Montessori diploma already, as a stand-alone qualification.   It may not be taken in isolation from an approved Montessori qualification.  It does not confer ‘qualified teacher status’ in the UK.  Application should be made, in the first place, direct to MAEL (by letter and c.v. by post or email) and not to the Teaching Centre.
