Keeping observational records on the iPad was the topic of a seminar, sponsored by MAEL and held at the Kent & Sussex Montessori Centre.  David Gettman (author of the well-known textbook Basic Montessori: Learning Activities for Under-Fives) and his colleague Lucy Morrison presented their new iPad-based system. It is specially designed for UK Montessori pre-schools which are subject to the EYFS.  David explained that the main benefit for schools is to speed up and make easier the process of recording and accessing observations. The highly-secure system directly incorporates iPad photos taken while observing, generates EYFS reports and Learning Journals automatically, and handles all your activity planning. It also gives parents an attractive individual and secure website about their child with tailored suggestions on how to support his or her progress at home. The talk and demonstration was much appreciated by the audience (of 30+ practicing Montessorians) and there were many questions, which David expertly fielded.
